One such tool considered for development under the regional component is a database to log interceptions at ports of entry. The data generated over time can then be used as a reliable source of information to assist with risk assessments; to better target surveillance and possibly provide indirect evidence of the existence of a pest or disease in the country of origin as a basis of discussing trade issues in the within both the OECS and the wider the Caribbean.

This database can be a valuable tool to multiple sectors and agencies that are stakeholders in plant quarantine; animal health; public health; and biosecurity. The Database System will be an Online (Web-based/cloud) system whereby member countries will be able to record interceptions of items that potentially pose a risk; and track follow up actions, in real time. The database will be hosted on the website Caribbeaninvasives.org under the activities of the project “Preventing the COSTS of IAS in Barbados and the OECS”.

View the Presentation by the Database Developer: Plant Quarantine Interceptions Database – December 2020 (PPSX)

One of the desired outcomes of the “Preventing the COSTS of IAS in Barbados and the OECS” is to not only assess the risks posed by IAS but to develop […]

[62
